Terry Fox’s second cousin lives in Spruce Grove and she is co-organizing the Tri-Region Terry Fox Run this year.

The family friendly walk/run/bike event, on Sept. 17, will be at Jubilee Park in Spruce Grove.

In the past couple years the event has seen declining numbers so Marsh is spreading the word and asking people to come out and show their community spirit.

Last year, approximately 20 people came out for the bike/run/walk event in the Tri-Region, she said. This year, Marsh wants to see a larger turnout so she has put forward an invite to Stony Plain, Spruce Grove and Parkland County councillors and aldermen to take part.

The invite has gone to restaurants in the area as well.

Marsh has also invited some of the sports community members like Spruce Grove Minor Soccer, Spruce Grove Minor Hockey and Spruce Grove Cougars.

There is no registration fee to take part but participants are encouraged to make a donation online at Terryfox.org or to download the donation sheet and bring cash at the event.

Marsh explained the Terry Fox organization uses the money for all kinds of cancer research – from kidney to brain cancer and has minimal administration costs.

She explained when Terry Fox started his course, he only asked for $1 from each person.

“So even if we can all donate $1 it’s all in the spirit of Terry Fox,” she said adding there’s no minimum amount of donation.

The run course this year stretches from one kilometre, five kilometres and 10 kilometres.

Registration is open until the morning of the event. Registration starts at 9 a.m. while the friendly run/walk starts at 10 a.m.
