‘Tis the season of giving.

That’s why Save-on-Foods in Spruce Grove is loading up a bus full of goodies.

The Stuff a Bus event asks customers who shop at Save-on-Foods in Spruce Grove, and the wider community, to donate non-perishable food items. Cash donations are also accepted as part of the annual event.

The Stuff a Bus event in Spruce Grove is in its fifth year.

Everything collected stays within the community and goes to the Parkland Food Bank Society in Spruce Grove. Save-on-Foods in Spruce Grove started the event to help and support the local food bank.

Steve Crape, Save-on-Foods store manager, said there’s a need for programs such as this one in the Spruce Grove area.

“I live in Spruce Grove and I know the need is there,” he said.

“We like to support the food bank, it’s my number one go-to charity and I try to support it,” he added.

Crape wants to engage the local schools to help with donations.

Save on Foods will be giving away a $500 gift card to the school that collects most food items or units per student.

“We have put the challenge out for the local schools,” he said.

Crape said the number of food items collected last year was low and that’s because school participation was low. He would like to see that go differently this year.

On average, the stuff a bus event collects about 3,000 kilograms of food.

Donations can be brought to Save on Foods. Acceptable donations include non-perishable food items.

The Stuff-a-Bus event is on Dec. 2 when the bus will be on site between 8:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
