The Light Up Your Life Tri-Community Fundraising Campaign runs from Nov. 1 – Dec. 31, this year.

The Light Up Your Life Society is a group of dedicated volunteers from the Tri-Community area with a mandate to promote awareness of palliative/hospice and continuing care by raising funds.

The organization’s campaign goal this year is to raise $100,000.

The funds donated help benefit palliative, hospice and continuing care for clients in the Tri-Community area. The money raised this year, will help to purchase equipment like gel mattress pads, two-wheel walkers, lounge chairs, portable and ceiling lift slings and therapy mattress among other things.

The list of items needed comes from the WestView Health Centre, the three Good Samaritan Care facilities, and in clients’ homes.

In 2016, the organization raised about $112,000 thanks to the generosity of donors and sponsors.

This year is extra special for the society as it celebrates 25 years. In celebration, the society is undertaking an initiative called the “Anniversary Garden.” As part of the project, patients in hospice will be able to look out their window and see apple blossoms and maple and buck-eye leaves turning brilliant colours in Fall, as well as a perennial garden area where they can sit and enjoy the outdoors.

As part of the campaign this year, the organization is hosting various events including an Orient Family Restaurant buffet luncheon between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Nov. 13.

On Nov. 22, a Light Up Your Life Silent Auction will be underway between 12 p.m. to 7 WestView Health Centre in Stony Plain. The auction will have more than 200 items including original artwork, art prints, gift baskets, handmade crafts and gift certificates.
