The youth in the Tri-Region will have a chance to come out and voice their concerns and think of solutions.
The conversations will be part of Beyond Summit — set to take place in November.
Kyle Schmitke, 21, a co-founder of the conference says the event will bring young people in the Tri-Region in one room to discuss ongoing issues in the community.
The conference aims to gather 16 to 30-year-olds to discuss their problems and brain storm solutions.
The two-day conference on Dec. 1 and 2 will discuss topics like mentorship, health and wellness, continued education and community togetherness. The event will take place at Elk Hall in Spruce Grove.
“One of the discussions will be breaking down barriers — we want to break down neighbourhood barriers like some of us don’t even know our own neighbours and we live side-by-side for years,” he said.
The event has found two keynote speakers in Parkland County and the organizers are looking for two more. The two speakers confirmed will talk about continued education and community togetherness at the conference.
The organizers are hoping to empower attendees. Schmitke said by the end of the conference, he hopes a couple attendees would start initiatives or programs in the community that would serve young people.
He started Beyond Summit – an event in its first year—because he felt underrepresented in the community. The co-founder believes in the power of conversation, the summit website states. He wants to focus on clean energy and employment programs for young homeless people. Other directors and founders of the event are Neil Schmitke, Kirsten Letendre, Hannah Anderson, Hunter Skalski and Kathleen Anderson.
Currently, nearly 40 guests have signed up for the event and the organizers are aiming for 100 guests for the two-day event.
There is no cost to attend the event. The organizers have received a grant by partnering with Parkland School Division wellness coordinator Felicia Ochs. They have also received a donation from Cantega Technologies.
